5 Things you can do to
Increase Your Website Traffic

Unfortunately the line from the old movie "If you build it, they will come" is not true concerning internet websites.  You may have the BEST product at the most outrageous price and it won't mean a thing -- unless you have traffic.

However there are some things you can do to improve you websites traffic that don't include paying for advertising.  Here are some suggestions for improving your website traffic that will hopefully have the search engines beating a path to your website:

  1. Optimize your Website.

You domain name, page title, meta description and keywords are what the search engines first see of your site when they look your way.  If these four things don't match your site's content, the search engines are going to notice and will stop sending visitors to your site.  These should tell the searcher and the search engines exactly why this is the page for them. What is the overall theme of your website?  Who are you trying to attract and why would they be looking for you?  What would the person looking for your website key into the search engines if they were looking for a page like yours?   Once you have the answers to those questions, you will know what keywords and phrases to put in your meta tags, and use as your domain name and page title.  They should all reflect the theme of your website.

  2. Content is King.

My number one goal when I created my website was to inform the millions of people out there blushing smile who were interested, of how to earn income on their website, and work from home.  That is the 'mission statement' at EarnOnYourComputer.com.  To do this I need the search engines to send those millions to my website.   The search engines' 'mission statement' is to provide their searchers the best matched information, to their search criteria.   If I provide relevant, intelligent and insightful information in an engaging manner, I can help the search engines accomplish their goals.   If you help enough other people to get what they want you'll get what you want.

  3. Write Articles and Ads.

Writing articles about the same theme as your website or certain aspects related to your website is a great way to draw visitors to your site. You can post some on your website to increase you site's content; making the meta tags on that page keyword rich with your article and with others submit to the search engines and then others can be submitted to article announcement lists and ezine publishers in your niche market.   The articles you submit to the article announcement lists and ezine publishers can have an author's bio or resource box with your name, website, and free offer for the readers. This will be a link back to your site from wherever that article should show up.  Search engines a very impressed with a site that has quality links back to it.   This shows the site has content valuable enough that others want to link back to it.  Don't worry that you've never written an article before check out Easy Article Marketing.   Anyone wanting to do business on the web via a website has to write articles, or pay someone else to do it for them.

Like articles, you can place ads with active links to your website. Classifieds, is one of the best sites on which to place ads.  With a premium account, you can put links in your ad leading to not only the main page of your site, but to all the other pages as well.  And with a premium account, you can set your ads to automatically renew.  So you won't have to continually go back and redo the ads. (Just a hint - on USFreeAds.com, sign up for a GOLD account first, then a day or so later, upgrade to a premium account. You'll get $3 a month off the regular fee by doing so. - But don't tell anyone I told you so.)

  4. Directory Submissions

There are as many opinions on whether you should submit to the directories as there are directories . . . maybe more.  Nobody will argue, it's very time consuming.   And anyone who has been working on the web for any length of time will tell you at best it will have minimal effect; with two glaring exceptions.   There are two directories you need to submit to.  The first is DMOZ.org; also called the Open Directory Project.   The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web.  It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors.   It is also a directory which Google sets great store by.  (And therefore; so do we.)

The second directory is the Yahoo Directory.   Unfortunately, the Yahoo Directory has a $299 a year submission fee.  If you're going to do business on the web, this is called "necessary business expense."   Nobody likes it  .  .  .  except maybe Google and Yahoo; but they really, really like it.  (And therefore; so do we.)

  5. E-mail, Blogs and Forums

Just as you would add an authors' bio or resource box to the bottom of any articles you might write, you should also add a signature bio to any e-mail, blog or forum post.   You could have the bio identical to your article bio. Some of the blog and forum posts are archived, so your post and signature bio could be a link back to your site for months or even years to come.  Find blogs and forums complimentary to your website theme and ask and answer questions.   You will build your reputation and provide links back to your website in the process.

If you implement these five suggestions, your website should be indexed by the search engines in a relatively short time and your website ranking should improve steadily.   Remember, improving the page ranking of your site will be a constant job.  Adding new and fresh content and additional links back to your site will only strengthen your place in your chosen market and improve your bottom line.
